Summer Reading – coming in 2020

until 2020 Summer Reading begins!

  • Online registration is closed until May.
  • Reading starts the day after Memorial Day.
  • Prize Pick-up starts the first Monday in June.
  • Prize Pick-up, the Bead Bank, and Grand Prize Boxes close at 8p.m. on the fourth Wednesday in July.
  • Grand Prize winners are drawn at the Reader Reward Show.
  • Grand Prize winners will be notified by phone by 5 p.m. on the fourth Friday of July.
  • Grand Prizes may be picked up starting 9a.m. on the fourth Saturday of July and for two weeks after that.

Babies & Toddlers

Newborn to toddler (no reading beads or necklace)

  • Register online – Quickly add your child:  just name and birthdate! Earn frozen custard & coupons from our Sponsors. NEW simple paper program in 2020!
  • Summer Story Times are held at the Mason Community Center and at Cottell Park but NOT at the library as we outgrow our meeting room.

Children

entering Preschool through Grade 6

  • Register online – just name, birthdate, and FALL school & grade!
  • Pick up a Reading Log & your Reading Necklace with its collectible Summer Reading medallion at the library.
  • Read or listen to stories anywhere in the world. You earn one solid color bead for every 15 minutes. Mark your reading on your Reading Log.
  • Bring your Reading Log and Reading Necklace to the library to collect your prizes. Trade in your solid beads for fancy beads at the Bead Bank.
  • Put your Prize Slips in the Grand Prize Boxes for a chance to win one of many Grand Prizes.

Need MORE beads and Grand Prize Slips? 

  • Attend the library’s STEM Story Times. Collect a Bonus Bead and a Grand Prize Slip  at each STEM Story Time you attend.
  • Reading more than 30 minutes a day, five days a week? You may be an Extreme Reader! If you’d like, you can continue recording reading time (up to 200 hours!) on an Extreme Reading Log after you have completed your first 20 hours. Work with your parent to set a goal for the summer and earn additional Beads and Prize Slips.
  • The Mason PTO and Culver’s reward Mason students participating in our Reading Challenge. Parents must reply Yes during Registration to give us permission to share data with the school. MECC students reading 20 hours or more will be recognized on a bulletin board in the Fall. MECC, ME, and MI Students reading 32 hours or more will be invited to an Ice Cream Sunday party at school in the fall. That means students need to read an additional 12 hours on their Extreme Reading Log in addition to completing the library’s 20 hour Reading Challenge.

Grand prizes typically include event tickets, an Echo Dot, a Kindle Fire tablet, a Lego set,  a Lazer Kraze gift card, Kings Island tickets, and more!
