All Ages Birth-Adult Welcome!

Summer looks a whole lot different this year. Instead of big kickoff parties and standing-room-only special performances, fabulous decor, teen-staffed check-in and bead tables, and Grand Prizes on display, our summer reading program is almost totally online, with no in-person groups, only virtual story times and programming, online registration, and registration packet and reading necklace distribution curbside, and possibly waiting until after Summer Reading ends.

While the public health emergency brings huge constraints and challenges, Ohio librarians have a long history of producing super-creative, engaging summer library programs, frequently with limited resources. We are in an unprecedented situation, and it’s both realistic and wise not to aim too high. But we hope that some practices, ideas, and innovations that we experiment with this summer will be so successful, they’ll become standard practice for us long after social distancing guidelines and heightened disinfecting practices are memories.

  • Online registration is June 15 – July 30.
AUGUST EDITION registration is July 30 -August 30

    • Register only once per person. Multiple registrations will disqualify you.
    • You can edit your registration if you change your goal or prize choice.
    • Contact Ms. Cheryl if you need help deleting an accidental duplicate registration.
  • Read and set your own goal during July or August 2020. Choose one goal or three, your choice!
    • Read or listen to 20 books in a month
    • Read or listen for 20 hours in a month.
    • Read or listen for 20 minutes / day for 20 days in a month.
  • Ebooks, audiobooks, assigned summer reading, bedtime stories, reading out loud, reading to your baby, graphic novels, magazines — it all counts as summer reading.
  • Parents are welcome to adjust the goals to fit the age, reading ability, and wiggliness of their child. Our hope is that you will set an enjoyable and attainable stretch goal.
  • Reading 20 hours in July is a challenging goal! Reading 20 minutes a day for at least 20 days can be a good goal for most people. You should only count books at your reading level. Reading 20 chapter books might be a VERY challenging goal for one month!!
  • Read or listen to stories and track your progress. Keep track however you like. You can also mark your reading on a Reading Log. You don’t need to turn in your log or show it at the library.
  • Using our Reading Log:
    • If your goal to to read 20 books, then each circle is equal to 1 book.
    • If your goal to to read 20 hours, then each circle is equal to 1 hour.
    • If your goal to to read 20 minutes per day for 20 days, then mark one circle for each day in the month that you did that. (Note: If you read more than 20 minutes on a day, you still mark only one circle for that day.)
  • Kits are available 1 per person, while supplies last. (Please take only one kit, not both a Necklace & Coupon kit *and* a Just Coupons kit).
  • Necklace & Coupon Kits will be available to pick up for home use. The Bead Bank will not be open for bead trading this year. Necklace Kits contain a collectible medallion, a necklace, 40 beads, a Goal tag, a LazerKraze coupon, a Culvers coin, and an Ohio Renaissance Faire coupon.
  • Just Coupon Kits contain a LazerKraze coupon, a Culvers coin, and an Ohio Renaissance Faire coupon. (Note: On 8/7, the Ohio Renaissance Faire announced it is canceling its 2020 season.)
  • Pickup is during curbside pickup hours. No appointment needed, but social distancing and masks are required.  Please have only one person per household enter the library to pick up the materials. Space in the entryway is very limited.
  • Children, teens, and adults can also pick up a free book while supplies last. We’ve put the books for younger children (board books – early elementary chapters books) into bags with activities. Look for those in tabletop bins while supplies last. You will find the books for established readers, teens, and adults on a book cart.
  • Grand Prize winners will be drawn randomly from those who registered. Winners for Summer Reading will be drawn on Friday July 31st and notified by 5p.m. using the phone number or email provided during registration. The winner for the AUGUST EDITION will be drawn randomly on Monday 8/31 and notified by September 1st 5p.m.
  • Grand Prizes may be picked up by appointment. Prizes will not be mailed.
